MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THE HOMELESS
In March 2012, Mayor Ron Leone brought together members from groups who
deal with homelessness on a daily basis and asked for a solution to helping
move more of our homeless population off the streets and into shelter as well
as working towards ensuring they get help to overcome the cycle of
homelessness.
Among the people in attendance were members of the Concord Police
Department, team members from Anka Behavioral, Inc (Project Hope) and Central
County Homeless Outreach, staff from Contra Costa County Health Services,
representatives of Mechanics Bank as a financial supporters and advisors and
many City of Concord staff. A series of meetings was held, each providing new
and fresh ideas which culminated in the formation of Change4RealChange.org.
Mayor Ron Leone
While this idea came from a group of people who deal with the
homeless, its ultimate success will come from people within our
community like you.
Have you been thinking... "I would love to make a difference in
peoples' lives, but I don't know what I can do?".
Change 4 Real Change needs volunteers who are willing to spend 3 to 4
hours a week helping. It may be passing out flyers to people at community events to spread the word of this program; it may be giving a presentation to a church or community group; it may be picking up the change and proceeds of voucher sales at participating businesses and setting new collection containers in place or restocking vouchers; it may be updating the website or replying to email questions from people in the community, or manning our Facebook page... there are a LOT of ways to get involved.
